Backing The Barricade is a photo project inspired by the community we’ve strived to spend as much time inside of as possible for the last 10 years. If you frequent music venues it’s a world you’re familiar with and a community you’ve likely found yourself a part of whether you meant to or not.
As concert photographers we’ve spent a significant amount of time around live music, both behind barricades as fans and in front of them working. After years spent photographing concerts we’ve always felt like there was this missing piece to the story. Attention at shows is pretty much fully dedicated to what’s happening on stage and rarely is attention given to the ones behind the barricade.
And that’s where we’ve decided to jump in.
We’re flipping the script and bringing attention to the stories that live on the other side of the barricade. The stories that belong to you - the fans.
It happened organically at first, at almost every show while waiting for the next artist to go on we’ve had the chance to meet so many fellow fans and hear stories of how the music we were all there to hear has impacted their lives. Stories we were honored to be told and that we believe are worth sharing. And that's what we're here to do.
In short, Backing The Barricade is inspired by you…
By the friends we’ve made while waiting in line
By the internet friends turned real life friends
By the countless lyric tattoos we’ve been shown
By the couples we’ve gotten to witness get engaged at shows
By the best friends who met because of a band
By the people we’ve met in one city for a show and reunited with in another years later
By the strangers turned instant friends, even if it’s just for a few hours..
We love you and are inspired by you daily.
And we hope Backing The Barricade becomes a space you continue to find community in...
Hello hello! My name is Madi and I make up 1/2 of Backing The Barricade. I was born and raised in Dallas, TX and have been a DFW-based concert photographer for over 7 years now. Concert venues have always felt like home to me which so often results in the friends I meet at shows feeling like family. Getting to spend my time documenting that is the honor of a lifetime and I hope to do it for as long as possible…

Hiii!!! I’m Lor - the other 1/2 of Backing The Barricade. Dallas based, NJ raised photographer always on the hunt to document raw, unscripted emotions that can only be caught in the moment. I've been shooting live music since 2009, focusing on the East Coast Pop Punk scene and am excited to turn my focus back towards the passion of live music and the community it lives in.
